Better Carers

A company that takes great care in its recruitment procedures and believes in the value of supporting its carers

“We want to have as much trust in our carers as if they were caring for our own relatives”

Anne Challenor-Wood & Anna M. Cara

We take great care in our selection procedures. Each Convivium Care carer is subject to a very thorough interview and three separate referees are contacted to vouch for their previous experience and character. We ensure that each carer has the necessary experience and skills to provide the care you need and is fully committed to Convivium Care’s philosophy. Carers are given careful guidance as to their role and responsibilities.

Convivium Care carers have a range of skills and the Directors aim to match the carers and assignments to ensure that they have the appropriate skills. We also endeavour to match carers and their clients in terms of personality, so that the arrangement is a happy one for both parties.

A number of our carers have previously worked as nurses or as nursing auxiliaries, some have worked in nursing or residential homes, whilst others have had experience of caring for relatives or friends. Carers are encouraged to extend and update their training. Adherence to our philosophy and policies is regularly monitored.

“I was also impressed by the way  you cared about your carers … It seems obvious that if you look after your staff  they will feel valued and perform all the better for it. We met some lovely people through your Agency doing difficult and often distasteful work willingly and uncomplainingly.“

Convivium Care carers are there to provide whatever care, companionship and support are needed to help clients lead as full a life as possible, enjoying their independence and  continuing with their preferred lifestyle. We also firmly believe that if carers feel valued and supported then they are most likely to be able to give their utmost to their client.

Some of our carers work as companion carers only. In this capacity they provide companionship and housekeeping for the client. Other carers may provide support to clients who require minimal assistance with personal care needs such as washing and dressing. A number of our carers are suitably skilled to provide care to clients requiring higher levels of care. This care may involve full assistance with washing, dressing, bathing, toileting, feeding, and so on.

The ages of carers vary quite widely, with the majority being in the 40 – 60+ age group. The vast majority of our carers are women, although we do have some male carers.  Client’s preferences with regard to the age, gender, etc of carers are taken into consideration when determining the suitability of any particular carer. Convivium Care is fully committed to equal opportunity practice.

We are registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspection and are members of the United Kingdom Home Care Association. Commended for our recruitment procedures, it is our job to choose and vet suitable Carers, as well as to ensure that care is ongoing and continuous.
